I taught an introductory QM course last period with: • self-assessment (weekly reflection on learning outcomes + final grade) • problem sets (graded by TA) • groupwork (presented to me) This worked well. Most important thing at the moment though is to be kind and supportive.

For self-assessment I used DISA (github.com/UniversityOfHelsinkiCS/disa-tool/) which was designed for larger courses. However I was assured would work for mine, too – and it did. I've still much to learn for next time about how to best weave the self-assessment into my teaching and learning methods.
