    1. Going to Madrid in June for a workshop. Reimbursement from the hosts is 66e/night. Average 2* budget hotel in the area is ~120e/night. Have to claim the difference from my home institute. Nobody’s fault, but shows how disconnected from reality reimbursement policies can be.

    And of course all of this is paid retrospectively, which can hurt graduate students. helsinkiuni we started paying travel grants as advances to academic visitors, which I think is a great idea.
